What Level of Education Is Required to Be an Oral Surgeon?
Becoming an oral surgeon in Wellington requires a high educational commitment. First, you must obtain a bachelor's degree from a university, followed by earning a DMD or DDS from an accredited dental school. The following phase involves undergoing four to six years of residency training. Finally, as an aspiring surgeon, you must successfully pass an examination administered by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
In total, the typical training timeline for an oral surgeon spans 12-14 years. This extensive period ensures that qualified experts possess over a decade of relevant knowledge and experience.
Why Would I Need an Oral Surgeon?
In most situations, choosing an oral surgeon has more benefits than relying on a general dentist. Oral surgeons have specialized training to tackle complex procedures and treatments. Meanwhile, general dentists frequently refer patients to oral surgeons for tasks such as dental implant placement, wisdom tooth extraction, full mouth reconstruction, and several other advanced procedures. Additionally, sedation options are offered to ensure maximum comfort for all our patients near Wellington.
What Is the Best Way to Find a Dentist Who Does Dental Implants?
Securing the services of a skilled dentist is incredibly important for the successful placement of dental implants, given their complexity. Fortunately, finding a qualified implant dentist in Wellington is easier than you think!
First, you should ensure that the potential dentist specializes in implants. Membership in implant-focused groups, such as the International Congress of Oral Implantology (ICOI), is a strong indicator of this specialization.
Additionally, consider the type of practice that aligns with your preferences for implant procedures. Some patients favor collaborative efforts from a comprehensive dental team, with one dentist handling the implant placement and others managing the final restorations. But others may prefer a single dentist overseeing all aspects of the treatment process.
Will Insurance Cover Oral Surgery?
Dental insurance coverage for procedures varies significantly based on your insurance provider, plan, and the specific treatment you are undergoing. Ultimately, your eligibility for coverage depends on these factors. If you have any inquiries or concerns about your dental insurance and its coverage details, feel free to reach out by giving us a call. Our friendly team members are ready to help in any way possible!
